The Census Bureau is warning people who are struggling with interpreting data in the 2017 census about the risks of using the information for political purposes.
The data, which will be collected in the coming weeks, is being used to promote political agendas and to influence government policies, the Census Bureau says in a new statement.
“The Census Bureau has long recognized the potential for inaccurate and misleading data to be used to shape public opinion,” the bureau says in the statement.
“These risks can be mitigated by careful and informed data use.”
The bureau says people should “avoid interpreting census data in a way that could impact their ability to vote.”
People who have questions about how the census data is being collected should contact the Census Information Service at 613-929-5550.
